Interview: Easy Life
Easy Life are the UK group making international headlines.
The band recently took out the NME Award for Best New British act, where frontman Murray Matravers sung Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved” in the place of an acceptance speech. On top of that, they’ve recently been seen hot air-ballooning around the British countryside promoting their album, with a branded plane also flying across Los Angeles – a stunt that apparently blew the entirety of their promotions budget. It’s safe to say they’re literally soaring.
Hailing from the small town of Leicester, smack bang in the centre of England, the band have embellished their isolation and taken listeners on a trip to the seaside over the course of their debut album Life’s A Beach. Only the reality isn’t always as smooth sailing as the idea…
Their multi-genre album is an experimental delight, with a distinct A and B side that shows where the trip turns sour, as Murray says, “It’s an album about wishing you were elsewhere but at the same time encouraging yourself to be present and find pleasure in the little things life has to offer.”
We discuss the ideas behind the release including the symbolism of the ocean and goldfish, living in Leicester, rubbing shoulders with Los Angeles A-Listers and what’s next for Easy Life.
Life’s A Beach is OUT NOW.
