Interview: Sophia Carson
Sofia Carson is the ultimate multi-hyphenate from singer to actor to dance to UNICEF ambassador, Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation ambassador and scholarship co-sponsor.
You might recognise her from starring in NETFLIX’s Feel The Beat, Michael Bay’s Songbird, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, and from her most notable project Disney’s global phenomenon Descendants.
But on top of that, she has an impressive music career, working with the likes of J Balvin, Grey and Alan Walker, and her recent offering is her most influential work yet.
“Loud” is an anthem of empowerment, charging women to speak up and take up space, something instilled in her from a young age.
“I was raised by a mother who fearlessly taught her daughters to be loud, and to believe that as women, we are synonymous with strength. And I honestly think my lucky stars every day,” Sofia said.
It was her mum who also introduced her to her music role models, Cher and Barbara Streisand.
“I remember being little and watching Cher’s concerts and telling my mum, ‘I need to put on concerts like that one day’,” she said.
“They were just trailblazers and women who redefined what it was to be a woman in the industry. And they were so much more than just a singer. They were songwriters, directors, producers, Oscar winners, activists. So those were kind of my role models.”
With accolades equally impressive, Sofia is undoubtedly the Cher and Barbara for a new generation of prospective singers ready to get LOUD!
